A highly unusual dance company, now in its 38th year
of evolution, Pilobolus germinated in
the fertile soil of a Dartmouth College
dance class in 1971. What emerged was
a collaborative choreographic process
and unique weight-sharing approach
to partnering that gave the young
company a non-traditional but
powerful new set of skills
with which to make dances. Pilobolus has been featured recently on the
Oprah show as well as the 2007 Academy Award telecast and in the 2002
Winter Olympic Games. Theatrical innovation at its best, Pilobolus
creates work with the imaginative use of costumes and props and
precarious aerial moves, while delivering, strong messages and
meaning in a deceptively accessible story.
“The company provides a much-needed
breath of fresh air in the somewhat solemn
climate of modern dance in New York.”
